Fish Habitat
Surveys.

The nature of a fishery and the variety of fish, invertebrates, birds and other wildlife it will support, is largely dependant on the range of habitats available. Different habitats give fish and other animals somewhere to feed, hide from predators or prey, spawn, and hibernate.
It is important to consider features such as;
  • Marginal and open water vegetation,
  • Overhanging trees
  • Light levels
  • Where water enters and leaves the system
  • Any risks to the quality of this water.
This provides basic, but vital, information on how a lake or fishery can and should be managed.
Very poor, and expensive, decisions can be made if this background knowledge isn't available.

Blueroof specialises in providing bespoke surveys for a variety of purposes e.g.: fisheries management, land development, in-river works, etc.
We have many years of experience in:
-  "Walk-over" fish habitat surveys.
-   River corridor surveys.
-  Invertebrate surveys (see Water Quality)
-   Surveying watercourses for impediments to fish migration. This includes fish tracking and tagging telemetry surveys in conjunction with our partner company FishTrack Ltd.
We offer survey design, delivery and reporting. We can also assist with the legislative requirements of any proposed projects e.g.: planning.
