Population surveys are an invaluable management tool. They provide information on the species composition in a fish community, the different age structures of that community, growth rates and breeding/recruitment rates.
With background knowledge of these, management decisions - such as fish stocking, fish removal or changes to habitat - can be made with less risk of making costly and possibly long-term mistakes.
We have many years experience in a wide range of population surveys in many different situations.
We offer:
We offer a full Tagging and Telemetry service with our partner company Fishtrack Ltd
We offer project design, delivery and reporting and can assist with the legislative requirements of any proposed projects.

We have many years experience in a wide range of population surveys in many different situations.
We offer:
- Presence/absence surveys - by observation or by capture. To simply give a list of species present.
- Quantitative fish surveys - an in-depth survey, using capture methods such as netting or electrofishing to carry out 3-pass depletion surveys, or abundance surveys. In addition to identifying the species present and their population size, this can provide information on age class and growth rates.
- Point abundance surveys - give population estimates on large waterbodies.
- Tagging - the use of tags and telemetry data is becoming an increasingly important tool in the assessment of all aspects of fish populations from the size of the population to the behaviour of the different fish species in a range of circumstances.
